Why Thai shorts are different from other training shorts

If you’ve ever trained in longer shorts and then switched to proper Thai shorts, you’ll notice the difference immediately.

These shorts have wide side splits reinforced at the seam so they don’t blow out during hard training. The leg opening is generous enough for chambered kicks, teeps, and knees without the fabric pulling against your thigh.

Materials and construction

Made from 100% polyester satin — the same fabric you’ll see on Thai shorts from Thailand. Polyester satin has a smooth, slightly shiny finish that looks great but, more importantly, it’s lightweight and doesn’t hold sweat like cotton. After a hard pad session, you want fabric that stays light rather than becoming waterlogged.

The waistband is 10cm wide elastic with an inner drawstring. The wide elastic distributes pressure evenly so it doesn’t dig in when you’re twisting or clinching, and the drawstring means you can dial in the fit so the shorts stay put during explosive movement. No adjusting mid-round.

What’s the difference between Thai shorts and MMA shorts?

Thai shorts are shorter and cut wider at the leg with deep side splits, which allows more hip mobility for kicking. Do Thai shorts have a size range that fits larger waists?
