Warm up
-Run in circles in the dojo, or outdoors
-Do all the stretching exercises for the full body. For the legs, loosen the quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip flexors. The height of the kick can be significantly improved by regular stretching. It will also help in flexibility and provide a full range of motion.
-Perform plyometric drills like explosive lunges, box jumps, frog jumps, squat jumps, and more. This will improve the explosiveness in the kicks.
Leg swings
-Use support by holding a wall, a railing, or some partner.
-Swing your leg sideways, forward, and backward while counting the number of swings. Progressively increase the count as the range of motion increases.
-Repeat with the other leg.
-This exercise warms the hip flexors and the range of kicking will also be improved.
Use a resistance band
-Loop one end of the resistance band to some fixed anchor, and the loop the other end to the kicking leg.
-Practice kicking by overcoming the resistance of the band. All types of kicks may be practiced with resistance bands.
-Repeat with the other leg.
-This exercise will strengthen the muscles of the hip, increase power, range, and speed.
Use a kicking bag
-Kick a heavy bag. Strike with the ball, sole, or heel of the foot. Also practice striking with the instep, shin, and the knee.
-Combine the kicks with increasing power by kicking repeatedly with full power.
-Repeat with the other leg.
-This exercise will perfect the kicking technique.
Take help from a training partner
-The training partner can hold kicking shields or paddles as targets.
-Try to hit the targets at different heights and speed.
-Practice all types of kicks. Turning kicks and multiple spinning kicks can also be practiced.
-Repeat with the other leg.
-This exercise will improve the kicking accuracy and range.
