The main factors that influence the design of Muay Thai shorts are the country of origin and tradition, which determines its functionality. Functionality consists of the length of shorts, fabric, design, cut, colour, and size. Due to these factors a Nak Muay (a practitioner of Thai boxing or a Muay Thai fighter) wears colourful shorts that are more colourful and much shorter compared to boxing or MMA shorts. Pacific Sports offers high-quality Muay Thai shorts that respect tradition and are maximized for functionality, along with being colourful, stylish and long-lasting.

Country of origin
Muay Thai originated in Thailand, which is a hot and humid country. Therefore, wearing minimum clothing ensured sufficient airflow, which kept the body cool and was functional. In Thailand, a Nak Muay wears only shorts, coupled with a headband and sometimes an armband. A ranking system does not exist in Muay Thai, and so colored belts as found in a Gi are not used. A Nak Muay is usually ranked as a beginner, intermediate, or an expert, based on the years of practice. Generally, at least fifteen years with practice of six days a week for six hours a day, is required to become a Nak Muay having an intermediate level of skill in Muay Thai. Due to the long time required to become an expert in Muay Thai, usually training starts when the Muay Thai fighters are seven or eight years old.

Functionality and Tradition
Functionality in a particular geographical location is the prime consideration for using any garment. Muay Thai shorts were designed to offer maximum functionality for practicing Muay Thai in Thailand. However, as a sign of showing respect, Muay Thai practitioners wear Muay Thai shorts, even if they are practicing in a cold country like Switzerland; just like a gi is worn by practitioners of Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, and other Japan originated or Japanese influenced martial arts, even if they are practicing in hot countries like Thailand or Malaysia. Irrespective of the weather, wearing traditional clothing is one way of respecting tradition in martial arts.
Functionality consists of the length of shorts, the waist-grip, side-cuts, fabric, design & colour, and size. Pacific Sports offers highly functional Muay Thai shorts that last a very long time.

Length of shorts
Compared to boxing shorts, or MMA shorts, or running shorts, Muay Thai shorts are much shorter in length. Functionality is the prime reason why Muay Thai shorts are so short. They are made in such a fashion that airflow can be maximized, so that the legs can cool in a fast manner. The shorter length also provides greater freedom for the thighs, so that they can move faster without any obstruction. Pacific Sports offers Muay Thai shorts having a shorter length as used in Thailand by Thai practitioners.

Waist-grip
Traditionally, only a cord was used to tie the shorts at the waist. With the introduction of elastic, nowadays, elasticated waist bands and a cord are sewed in the shorts for gripping the waist. Pacific Sports offers Muay Thai shorts with elasticated waistbands having an adjustable cord for a perfect fit.
Side-cut
The shorts are cut at the sides, to provide more room for the legs to move. Since Muay Thai is an art of eight limbs (two fists, two elbows, two knees, two shins), hence it was functional to provide full range of motion for all the limbs. With no upper-body wear, the fists and elbows can naturally move without any obstruction; and with shorter shorts with side cuts, the knees and shins can also move freely; thereby, shorter shorts with side-cuts are perfect. Pacific Sports offers Muay Thai shorts with comfortable side cuts, so that the Muay Thai practitioner can execute knee and shin strikes easily.

Fabric
Traditionally, the fabric was cotton. With the introduction of silk, satin, and polyester, the fabric of the shorts changed, as these fabrics were more lightweight and more long-lasting. Pacific Sports offers Muay Thai shorts in a combination of polyester with silk or satin. Polyester gives durability to the fabric, while silk and satin feel very smooth on the skin, besides giving a shining look. The combination of poly-silk or poly-satin wicks away sweat, which makes the fabric breathable.
Design & Color
Muay Thai shorts can be in plain solid colours, or feature ornamental designs, or sometimes feature graphics of animals, where the most popular is a graphical tiger design. The designs may be printed, patched, or embroidered on the shorts. The colour of the shorts are bold and bright. Usually, the golden colour is a favourite, which is coupled with red or black colours. “Muay Thai” written in Thai lettering is also a very popular design. Pacific Sport offers Muay Thai shorts in various attractive designs and colour combinations along with “Muay Thai”, “No Fear”, and “Shark” letterings.

Size
Wearing the correct size of Muay Thai shorts is important to gain a full-range of motion and be comfortable while practicing Muay Thai. Pacific Sports offers excellent Muay Thai shorts in Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-Large sizes. Kindly see the size chart to find your size.

Muay Thai T-shirts
During training, there is no upper wear in Muay Thai. However, when coming to or going from the training hall, a Muay Thai T-shirt can be worn. It is made of cotton and it is extremely comfortable. It can also be worn casually over jeans as a style statement. Wearing a Muay Thai T-shirt also shows your love for Muay Thai. Pacific Sports offers Classic White and Classic Black cotton T-shirts with “Muay Thai” stitched or printed on it in Thai lettering.
