How to kick kicking shields?

Positioning

If you’re holding the kicking shield for a partner, ensure you’re standing firmly with your feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent. Hold the shield securely against your body, with your elbows slightly bent to absorb the impact.

Stance

Start in a balanced stance, such as a fighting or neutral stance. Your weight should be evenly distributed between both feet.

Technique

—Roundhouse Kick. Pivot on your supporting foot and bring your kicking leg around in a sweeping motion. Aim to strike the shield with your shin or the top of your foot.

—Front Kick. Lift your knee towards your chest, then snap your foot forward to strike the shield with the ball of your foot.

—Side Kick. Raise your knee to the side, then extend your leg straight out to strike the shield with the heel or blade of your foot.

—Back Kick. Turn your back to the shield, look over your shoulder, then drive your heel backward into the shield.

Control and Power

Start with controlled, light kicks to focus on proper technique. As you become more comfortable, gradually increase your speed and power.

Breathing

Exhale sharply with each kick. Breathing correctly helps you generate power and maintain focus.

Partner Drills

If you have a training partner, take turns holding the shield and practicing kicks. Offer feedback to each other to improve technique.

Combinations

Mix different kicks and practice combinations to enhance your agility and coordination. For example, combine a front kick with a roundhouse kick.

Conditioning

Incorporate strength and conditioning exercises, such as squats, lunges, and core work, to improve your kicking power and stability.
