A Muay Thai warrior also performed a ritualistic prayer (known as “wai kru”), before going to battle.
With the passing of time, the bare fists were covered with lengths of hemp rope, which were wound around the hands and forearms. Nowadays, gloves and shorts are worn; nonetheless, the tradition of wearing a headband, armbands, and performing wai kru is still practiced. The headband and armbands are usually given by the trainer of the Muay Thai practitioner, when the trainer thinks that the practitioner can be promoted as a fighter.
