Are these shorts suitable for grappling and BJJ?

They work fine for light grappling and MMA-style training. For dedicated BJJ training (especially no-gi), you might prefer board shorts with no Velcro at all — some BJJ gyms don’t allow Velcro on the mat. Will the Velcro scratch my training partner during clinch work?

The Velcro fastening is on the inside of the waistband, which significantly reduces the risk of scratching. That said, if you’re doing a lot of wrestling or tight clinch work, it’s worth being aware of. Most training partners won’t have an issue with it.
