You can work on your punches with a heavy bag if you don’t have a training partner. But having a training partner is more advantageous as you can get valuable feedback for improving your punches. - To check your size, measure the distance across the punching knuckles on the back of your hand (Do this by laying your knuckles flat on a ruler). Measure from the side of your hand at the index finger across the 4 knuckles.

Warming up
Warm up with some running and stretching. Then wear Pacific Sports gel hand wraps and lightly hit the focus pads or focus mitts. Practice straight punches, overhooks, underhooks, uppercuts, while bobbing and weaving in and out.
Footwork
Throw the same punches but in slow motion, while concentrating on the footwork. Get the footwork correct. Then throw the punches in medium and fast speeds, while consistently concentrating on the footwork. Get the footwork correct in slow, medium and fast speeds.
Jabbing with fixed range
Now wear Pacific Sports MMA gloves, either open or close thumb, and practice jabs. Practice both single and double jabs at different heights, so that you practice hitting both the body and the head. Normally, a medium range is used to practice the punches.
Jabbing with flexible range
This is a variation of jabbing. Here, you jab while moving in and out of range. Your aim should be to hit the focus pad, or the focus mitt held by your partner. So, don’t jab in the air when you are too far or too close. Try to come in the exact range of the jab and then execute the jab.
Punching
Deliver strong and forceful punches. Don’t worry about hurting yourself, as the extra high-quality thick padding in Pacific Sports MMA gloves will keep your hands protected, while the same padding in the focus pads and focus mitts will also keep your partner protected. So, go all out and hit with full force. Although you are wearing gloves, still you need to make a proper fist and make sure your wrist does not bend upon impact.
Punching combinations
This is a variation of punching. Here, you practice different punching combinations. For example, a left jab + a right hook + a left uppercut. Practice with both the arms, so reverse it as a right jab + a left hook + a right uppercut. There are many combinations, and you can practice all of them. Remember to reverse them, so that you can practice both the arms equally. Focus on speed and power while punching. Don’t forget to get the footwork correct at all times.
Punching and kicking
MMA is not only punching, so practice kicking also. Pacific Sports focus pads and mitts can be kicked according to where your training partner holds them. Practice combining punches and kicks. Give a left jab + right front kick + a spinning hook kick + a straight punch. Use distance advantageously to move in and out fast, while practicing different combinations of punches and kicks.
Grappling
With Pacific Sports open thumb MMA gloves, grappling is easy. Perform a leg sweep, or a takedown and take the fight to the ground. Practice different submission moves, chokes and other grappling techniques. Pay attention when your partner taps, so that you don’t accidentally hurt your partner.
MMA style sparring
Now, that you have practiced both striking and grappling, go all out in MMA style sparring as if you are in the cage. At this time, your partner holds no training equipment like focus pads or mitts, rather just like you, he is also wearing Pacific Sports MMA gloves. Spar sincerely because the level of sparring that you achieve, will almost be the same level that you will achieve in a real MMA competition. However, remember not get yourself injured or to injure your partner, as an injury can take days, months, or sometimes even years of practice away.
Cooling down
