What makes the best gi?
Several features together make a best gi. Pacific Sports offers the best gi because it has the following outstanding features and benefits.
—the functionality
—the cut
—the fabric
—the stitching
—the colour
—the fit/size
—the washing
—the price
The functionality
The best gi must be fully functional for executing all the different stances, kicks, punches and blocks. It must allow for an unrestricted full range of motion, and one must feel comfortable wearing the uniform. Pacific Sports offers the best gi that has superb functionality.
The cut
A gi is available in three main cuts, namely the Japanese cut, the Kata cut, and the European cut. All these cuts are extremely functional, and the differences are largely due to their respective aesthetic appeal. Generally, outside Japan the European cut is the preferred cut for a gi, and it is used extensively in all European countries, as well as in many other parts of the world. Pacific Sports offers the best gi in the European cut.
The fabric
The fabric is cotton, canvas (canvas is 100% cotton, but the weaving is denser, which makes the fabric thicker and heavier than a normal cotton fabric), or a blend of polyester with cotton. The fabric may be weaved in several ways. In a gi, the common weaves are single weave, double weave, gold weave, pearl weave, pearl weave plus, honeycomb weave, and ripstop weave. The weaving of the fabric determines the weight of the fabric.
—Single weave and ripstop weave fabrics are light-weight fabrics. They weigh from 8oz to 10oz. These are generally suitable for beginner students.
—Pearl weave and pearl plus weave fabrics are a bit heavier than single weave fabrics, due to which they are sometimes also considered as medium-weight fabrics. They weigh from 12 oz to 14 oz. These are generally suitable for intermediate students.
—Gold weave and honeycomb weave are medium-weight fabrics. They weigh 14 oz. These are generally suitable for intermediate students.
—Double weave is a heavy-weight fabric. It weighs from 16oz to 18oz. These are generally suitable for advanced students.
Heavier weight fabrics provide a clear audible snap while performing different techniques. The fabric may be pre-shrunk or not pre-shrunk.
The stitching
Stitching is important, especially at the pressure point areas, so that it does not tear. Pacific Sports sells uniforms having from two to seven or more lines of stitching, which make the uniforms extremely tear-resistant and durable. Pacific Sports offers the best gi with reinforced stitching.
The colour
The traditional colour of gi is white. However, nowadays even black or different coloured gi are also worn. Pacific Sports offers the best gi in white, black, and blue colours. The BJJ gi has red trims to make it more stylish.
The fit / size
The gi has to be fit correctly in order to feel comfortable. Pacific Sports offers the best gi in all sizes. Whatever may be your size, you are sure to find a Pacific Sports gi that fits you perfectly. Please see the following size charts to find your size.
