These 10oz Cotton Ripstop Jiu Jitsu Pants are. They’re a standalone pant — no jacket included — made for training hard and lasting long.

Why ripstop cotton?

Ripstop is a tightly woven fabric with a reinforcing grid pattern built into it. If it starts to tear, the weave stops the rip from spreading. That’s exactly what you want in a training pant that’s constantly under tension. At 10oz, it’s light enough to stay cool during a hard roll, but substantial enough to hold up over time.

100% cotton also means the fabric breathes. If you’ve ever trained in synthetic blend pants that trap heat and feel clammy, you’ll notice the difference immediately.

Construction that holds up to real training

The areas that fail first on cheap pants are the knees and the inner seams. These pants address both:

• Reinforced knee panels — extra fabric layered where you’re most often on the mat
• Double-stitched seams at all stress points — so the seams don’t blow out when you’re sprawling or being stacked

These are also not competition-specific pants. If you’re competing under IBJJF rules, check your federation’s uniform requirements, as standalone pants must be matched with a compliant jacket.

Sizing guide

These pants are sized by height. The size numbers correspond roughly to your height in centimetres:

• 3/160 — suits height around 160cm
• 4/170 — suits height around 170cm
• 5/180 — suits height around 180cm
• 6/190 — suits height around 190cm

If you’re between sizes, go up. The rope drawstring gives you room to take the waist in, but you can’t add length to the legs. If you have a solid build (wider than average for your height), again, size up and rely on the drawstring to adjust the waist.

Because these are pre-shrunk, you should get consistent sizing after washing. Still, wash in cold water just to be safe on the first wash.

Can I use these pants with a different brand of gi jacket?

Yes. These are sold as standalone pants specifically so you can mix and match. The white colour means they’ll pair cleanly with most white gi jackets, regardless of brand. There’s no requirement to use matching tops and bottoms in most training environments.

Will the white fabric go see-through when wet or after washing?

No. At 10oz, the ripstop weave is dense enough that the fabric stays opaque, even when wet from sweat. This is one advantage of a heavier cotton weave over thin synthetic fabrics.

How do these compare to the pants that come with a full gi?

They use the same 10oz ripstop fabric as the pants in our full BJJ gi sets. The construction — double stitching, reinforced knees, pre-shrunk cotton — is the same. You’re not getting a lesser product by buying the pants on their own.

I’m between sizes. Should I go up or down?

Go up. The rope drawstring lets you take in extra room at the waist, but you can’t add length to the legs. Being a little long in the leg is manageable; being too short isn’t. If you’re between 4/170 and 5/180, order the 5/180.

Are these suitable for Judo or other grappling arts?

Yes, though check your school or federation’s rules. For Judo, some competitions require a matched gi from top to bottom, so standalone pants may not be competition-legal. For training purposes, the construction is robust enough for Judo’s gripping demands.
