Over time, a gi (martial arts uniform) has undergone modifications with respect to the martial art being practiced and the geographical location. Accordingly, the fabric of the gi is cut and hence, the best cut for a gi would be as per your geographical location and the martial art that you practice. For example, if you practice Karate in Japan, then a Japanese cut would be suitable, whereas if you practice Karate in any European country, then a European cut would be appropriate. However, you can wear any cut in which you feel comfortable. As a rule of thumb, go with the cut that is followed in your training school.

European cut
This is the preferred cut in European countries. The jacket sleeves are long, and similarly the length of the pants is also long. The lapels of the jacket are shorter. Modern cut
This is a like a European cut but it is slightly tailored to give a sleeker appearance, while giving enough space for mobility. It is a balance between style and comfort. This cut is available in both male and female varieties. Pacific Sports offers this cut for BJJ practitioners with a hot pink trim for females and a red trim for males. Taekwondo cut
This is same as the European cut, with the exception that the jacket has no lapels, rather it is worn like a T-shirt having a V-neck collar. Pacific Sports offers Taekwondo cut gi with or without the ITF logo.
Japanese cut
This is the cut that is worn in Japan. The gi has a very loose fit. The sleeves are shorter and the length of the pants is also shorter than the European cut. However, the lapels of the jacket are longer than the European cut. If you need a Japanese cut gi, please send us an email and we will arrange it for you.
Kata cut
This is worn to perform Karate Kata in competitions. The sleeves and the pant length are the shortest among all the cuts. The length of the lapel of the jacket is the same as the Japanese cut. Gi jackets are available in white colour in fabric weights of 8oz to 16oz. They are available in canvas, cotton or poly-cotton fabrics.
Cotton fabric tends to shrink and therefore some jackets are already pre-shrunk during the manufacturing process. Some jackets are not pre-shrunk, but they are manufactured with a shrinkage allowance so even after the natural shrinkage, the gi will fit you perfectly. Hence, you can buy your regular size irrespective whether the jacket is pre-shrunk or not pre-shrunk.
The Gi jacket features a European cut with the sleeves and collar having multiple lines of stitching, so that they resist tearing when they grabbed for throws or takedowns.

Gi pants are available in white and black colours, in fabric weights from 8oz to 16oz. They are available in canvas, cotton or poly-cotton fabrics.
The Gi pants are designed to facilitate kicking and so they feature a traditional cut with ample space to easily perform any type of kick.
The crotch is gusseted with reinforced stitching that prevents pulling and tearing while executing high kicks.
An elasticated waistband secures the pants at the waist, while an inner drawstring helps in adjusting a perfect fit.
