What to wear under a gi (martial arts uniform) ?

A gi (martial arts uniform) consists of a jacket, pants, and belt. The belt is generally purchased separately. Both men and women practice martial arts and both wear a gi.

For men, usually nothing is worn under the jacket, and regular briefs are worn under the pants. However, in winter, men may wear compression tops and compression shorts under a gi.

For women, usually a sports bra plus a rash guard/ compression top is worn under the jacket, and regular briefs plus a compression short/ spats are worn under the pants.
